    Advanced manufacturing

    What is it?

    Manufacturing involves transforming raw materials (such as iron which is converted to metal) into new products (such as cars). If you work in the industry you may create cars, surfboards, electronic equipment, parts for aircraft or even processed foods and vaccines for diseases.

    Queensland's achievements

    In Queensland, 11,000 manufacturing businesses employ nearly 190,000 people - generating a $18.3 billion share of the state's economy (2008-09 latest figures).

    The Queensland Government's Office of Advanced Manufacturing is a pivotal service provider to this industry partnering with specialists to work on new opportunities that increase global competitiveness.

    Over the last three years, over 3,000 companies have reported in excess of $150 million in annual sales, efficiency savings and new investments as a result of these services.
