    Rigger

    What the job does

    • assemble and install rigging gear such as cables, ropes, pulleys and winches to lift, lower, move or position machinery, structural steel and other heavy objects
    • erect structural steel for buildings or plants under construction
    • erect precast-concrete panels used on facades of buildings;
    • inspect, maintain and repair equipment

    Relevant skills and experience

    • experience in similar industry sectors
    • enjoy outdoor, practical work
    • physically fit
    • ability to work at heights
    • good with hands;
    • ability to work as part of a team

    What you might need to get the job

    • Certificate III in Rigging
    • Certificates of Attainment are also available in some States for Basic Rigging, Intermediate Rigging, and Advanced Rigging
    • a working at heights ticket
    • recognition of existing skills, experience or other qualifications.

    Where the job may lead

    • move into leading hand, supervising or management positions

    • gain more qualifications such as dogger and crane operator
